His father Thomas worked as a traveling salesman for a paper mill which meant that Ryan alongside his mother Donna a high school teacher, and his older sister Mandi, spent a great deal of time moving around from place to place. Eventually, Ryan’s parents divorced which stopped the family from having to move around so much and they finally settled in Cornwall, Ontario. These challenging times extended into his school life where Ryan attended a whole bunch of campuses as a student and had many other teachers along the way. It was the popular actor Sylvester Stallone’s film that inspired him to become interested in acting. Since it was the 1990s Ryan was only suspended for his dangerous reenactment, but his problems at school were far from over. Eventually, his mother Donna realized that her son was being bullied and picked on for his struggles to read so she enrolled him in a Special Education Course.

Schooling:

When that didn’t work she pulled him out of school and began to homeschool him. Around the same time, Ryan also started working in the entertainment industry when he teamed up with his sister to form a musical partnership that performed talent shows all around the city of Cornwall. While a commercial failure, the film earned widespread critical acclaim for Ryan’s performance. The movie went on to win a Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Ryan was 21 years old at this point in his time and he was starting to get noticed by more and more casting directors not to mention film critics. He earned much critical acclaim on his next commercial failure, The Slaughter Rule, and the film just grossed over $13,000. But the New York Times identified Ryan as major star material. For the most part, he continued to book one quirky role after another and stay relatively far away from big-budget movies. Chose instead to star in projects like The United States of Leland where he played the role of Leland P. Fitzgerald as well as Half Nelson where he brought the life of the drug-addicted teacher and earned himself his very first Oscar nomination in 2007.
